Bison Blue Water Expedition

           

A ‘Blue Water Expedition’ was by the Bison Division of the Indian Army located in the Southern Region was flagged off by Major General Rajesh Singh, General Officer Commanding of the Division. The flagging off the expedition took place at Agati, an Island of Lakshdweep and Minicoy group of Islands located 58 km North West of Kavarati. The flagging off ceremony was attended by number of civil and military dignitaries. The expedition is one of its kind undertaken by the ‘Bison Division’ primarily to provide adventure to the men of the elite Bison Division and also to increase awareness in the local population towards measures that can be taken to mitigate environmental concerns specially related to marine flora and fauna.

 

The adventure team consists of six officers and fifty four other ranks of the Division. Representatives of ‘Marine Division’ of World Wildlife Fund and also part of this expedition. A talk on presentation of ‘ocean life’ and ‘protection of environment’ was given by eminent environmentalists. The flagging off ceremony was followed Power Rafting, Scuba Diving, Beach Marathon and Para Motoring. These events will also be held at Kavarati on 24 Mar and Bangaram on 26 Mar09.

 

The expedition team will also interact the people of Lakshadweep Islands, spread awareness about the Army and the need to preserve the fragile ecology of their Islands
