My friend has stolen my wallet as he was only one sitting next to me. What proof do I need to get him convicted. I have already registered an fir.

Why you want to convict him for such small offence. Once you will ask how you should proceed with matter then after some years you will ask how to compound the matter. However, you have filed F.I.R. so now let the police officer investigate the matter. They will check all evidence which is required to be kept on record then prosecution will start case. For now your role is over. if police authorities asked the questions just cooperate with them,
