Advice on possible legal proceedings

Hi, I had co-signed for a student educational loan for a relative of mine a few years back. I signed the documents along with the borrower's father and the loan was credited to their joint account. Now i learn that they received a notice from a lawyer warning that legal proceedings are underway, incase the outstanding amount is not paid in full. The loan is in NPA now and they have missed many EMI. What are the possible legal proceedings that I'm going face and what are my options? Thanks!
