2g scam: sc defers hearing of swamy petition till october 10

The Supreme Court today deferred till October 10 the hearing of a petition filed by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy seeking CBI probe into the role of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in 2G scam.

The adjournment of the hearing by a bench comprising Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly was seen as a reprieve to the beleaguered Home Minister facing allegations of involvement in 2G spectrum case.

In another major development, senior counsel K K Venugopal told the apex court that CBI was investigating the real beneficiaries in the scam indicating that the Reliance group top brasses including Anil Ambani were under CBI scanner.

Though Mr Venugopal, appearing for CBI, did not name Mr Anil Ambani, but it was obvious when he said the Reliance group officers, arrested in the case, may take a U-turn and some of them may become approvers.

CBI also submitted before the Court that Tata group of companies did not get benefit from 2G licences allocation as former Telecom Minister A Raja favoured others and the aforesaid company had too suffered a lot because of him.

CBI, however, gave clean chit to the Videocon company.
