Respected Experts,
I have a query Regarding my name on my passport. I had an inter religion marriage under special marriage act and also a nikhanama. I am Hindu and my husband is muslim. After marriage I have continued my hindu name on all my legal documents including passport. Officially I have not taken my muslim name as it was for nikhanama purpose only. Now I plan to shift to Dubai(UAE) with my husband. I need to know will I have any problems with the laws there if I use my hindu name as I have heard shariat laws apply there. Please help..as I really need some good expert advice on how to go about it.I would not like to change my change and I am looking for solution as how to keep it.
Thanks & Best Regards
Preeti

it is not necessary for you to change your name after marriage . your passport reflects your name as reflected in your certificates . as far as facing problems in UAE are concerned better make inquires with UAE consulate .

If you have not adopted Muslim religion, get your marriage registered under special marriage act and continue with the Hindu name.

Sir,
Thank you for your reply. I did have a registered marriage under special marriage act. My question is regarding living in dubai with my muslim husband n continuining my hindu name. Does dubai laws allow a muslim married man to live with a non muslim woman who has a hindu name? Will the shariat in dubai accept my Indian registered marriage to a muslim man n if there will be no problems with my hindu name? Someone had mentioned that shariat law in dubai does not allow a muslim man to live with a non muslim.
Would really appreciate ur expert advice on this.

You cannot correct the names in the birth certificate if it has already been registered in thee register for births with the concerned authority. You can go for a change of name by following proper procedures through government gazette publication only.
As far as your name is concerned you can remain in your name in UAE too, the sharia law has got nothing to do with your name Indian name because you have married under special marriages act. Also here is no restriction to continue with your original name even if you have converted to Muslim, generally people in order to avoid embarrassment go for change of name.

Respected T. Kalaiselvan,
Sir..noted ur above advise. Can u pls confirm in which case the municipality dept registers its birth in three registers? I have no idea about it n how can i find about the same?
And incase its done..can i hv my name changed on my childrens birth certificate thru goverment gazette publications as u mentioned above?
This is a lil complicated. I live in bangalore.
Its a big relief to know sharia law will have no objections to my hindu name in dubai when i live with my muslim husband. I definately do not want to change my original name n the only issue i m facing right now r my kids birth certificates with the muslim name. I need big time help in this :-)
Thank u so much..
