procedure to file the challan by the police authorities

What is the usual time taken and procedure to file the challan by the police authorities. More so in respect of offence u/s 279 IPC.

generally the challan has to be filled with in 90 days though there is no specific time period define however if the challan is not filled with in 90 days then the accused is entitle to get bail. under sec 279 ipc it is a bailable offence
