There is no rule as such as far as my knowledge goes; But protocol, etiquette and normal prudence that subordinate cannot supersede the salary of boss will not permit a govt servant get more salary than PM or Prez.

I partially disagree with Mr rao. There are instances where subordinates draw more salry than bosses. at one point of time I had been drawing 15% more basic pay than my boss this happens in Govt.
At times boss and subordinate are not from the same cadre. I have got examples some persons will get provoked.
However as far as President is concerned. His salary is framed in such a way as no salary will exceed it.

Dr. Rao, I think this platform is inappropriate to find reply to your query. However, President and PM are also a public servant for the purpose where a senior is paid more than junior, as a matter of principle.
