Kirti Kar Tripathi (Expert) 10 January 2011
The minimum wages act are applicable to schedule employment declared by the appropriate government and under this Act the wages are prescribed on the basis of nature of Job and category of employees Skilled, unskilled, semiskilled, clerical etc.. The classification of employee such as daily rate, permanent, temporary, substitutes or probationary etc. is not apply in case of payment of minimum wages of these employees. In case the Institute of maritime studies is declared as scheduled employment by the respective appropriate government i.e. State Government under the act, Institute of maritime studies is required to comply the provision of the act. So it is better to enquire from the concerned Labour Office, whether institute of maritime studies is notified as schedule employment and in case, is notified you obtained the rate of minimum wages prescribed by the State Government to its employee and comply the same.
