Dear Experts,

What is the meaning of PW in below statement

After evaluating evidence of PW-1 during regular hearingheld on 20-09-2003

For civil proceedings PW1=PLAINTIFFS WITNESS NO ONE IN ORDER.
For a criminal proceeding PW1=PROSECUTION WITNESS NO ONE IN ORDER.

Even in civil case it plaintiff's case is called prosecution.

In our area it is not so.we call plaitiff witness [pw]defendant witness[dw],
the same be understood as prosecution and defense witness also.

Thanks for updating my knowledge.

In civil cases when it is dismissed for default, the court will record as "dismissed for non prosecution".

So, prosecution is not meant only for criminal cases.

However the practical usage may differ in many courts.

I have not taken a different stand of Mr.Singh, He is perfectly correct. I just had added in inputs.

conventionally here they do order "dismissed in default".
i did not update you i simply said things are same but conventions are different and they create association,then a new word though with same meaning creates discomfort just because of addiction.

In West Bengal also it is called Prosecution Witness be it civil or criminal whatever case.

In this context it is only Plaintiff Witness. Other PW is prisnors of war.

EX 1,2,3 Plaintiffs document no 1,2,3
EX A1, A2,A3 Defendants Document
EX B1,B2, B3 or EX C1, c2, c3 Defendants documents if defendants are having different interests.

Court EX 1 if Document is marked by the Court.

Pw1 Ex 1 or DW1 Ex 1 Document produced by witness

EX P1,2,3 Prosecution Documents
EX D1, D2, D3 Defense documents.
