changing name

(Querist) 18 April 2014 This query is : Resolved
Sir !

I would like to know what steps are needed to change name in khas land and jote land from a father's name to an inheritor as my father left intestate and what will be the stamp duty to change name and what all steps need to be taken. Also both the properties fall under separate tehsils. Thankyou !

contact Block Development office or Tehsil land revenue department, submit there death certificate of deceased and apply for change name of record holder. there is no stamp duty required.

Are you the only legal heir?
Rajendra K Goyal (Expert) 19 April 2014
The land would go in the name of all legal heirs, consult local tehsildar office. no stamp duty applied.

No, on mutual understanding we have divided our shares. Theirs r located in the state where they reside n mine the above quoted property in a different state. However they cannot come to me right now as they have exhausted their leaves due to the recent demise of my father for legal formalities to confer me poa as advised to me. My father left debts behind and i am in a hurry to pay it off asap. Could u plz guide me to speed up the process to change title without their presence. Would b grateful. Sincerely.

contact a local lawyer . enter into deed of family settlement for division of shares . have it duly stamped and registered . based on said settlement deed you can make application for change in name in revenue records
