Two adults of opposite sex staying in hotel room - anything illegal?

(Querist) 25 November 2015 This query is : Resolved
I just want to know the legal implications if two adults of opposite sex stay together in hotel room in the following scenarios?
Assume that both parties deny any physical relationship.

Can police take them into custody and book charges under any sections?

1) Unmarried man and woman
2) Unmarried man and married woman
3) Unmarried woman and married man
4) Married man and woman

I'm asking this because many times we see in news that police conducting raids in hotels and taking in to custody if they see a man and a woman staying in one room without any proof of marriage. Is it legal?

"There is no law that prohibits unmarried couples from staying together in hotels. Choosing to stay together is a personal choice and falls under freedom of movement, which cannot be restricted."

In 2001, the Allahabad High Court held that a major man and woman can stay together without getting married if they want and this is not illegal. (Payal Sharma v. Superintendent, Nari Niketan, Agra)

In S. Khushboo v. Kanniammal , the Supreme Court, placing reliance upon its earlier decision in Lata Singh v. State of U.P. , held that live-in-relationship is permissible only in unmarried major persons of heterogeneous sex, and it is not a criminal offence under any law.

In short it is not a legal wrong if you can prove that the couple are consenting adult and not coming under the ambit of the The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.

A man and a woman staying together in a lodge in a single room is not an offence. If they are taken by police during a raid, they can explain their status and prove their genuineness. Until they have not indulged in brothel, there is no offence
