Scrapping of passenger car

I handed over my end-of-life passenger car for scrapping to the mechanic, who had serviced my car for the last 4 years, with the express understanding that I must have some document that the car had been scrapped at the Mayapuri Scrap Yard in Delhi failing which the car must be returned to me. It has been one and a half months till date that the mechanic has failed to produce any document but insists that it has been scrapped. Exasperated I have given him an ultimatum that in the next one week if my demand goes unheeded I would report the matter to the police as I fear that the car may be misused if not scrapped. Please advise.

Are you supposed to get any consideration from him, or are you supposed to pay any consideration to him for scrapping the car?
In any case, you can report to the police, as planned - though nothing will come out of it. At best it will establish that you handed over the car to the mechanic, and you made a complaint to the police. In case anything happens (as feared by you), your police complaint and the admission by the mechanic would come to your help.

Where is the car kept? If the mechanic does not find time, get the keys from him and ask him to call you up for handing over the keys to him when he finds leisure for this purpose. Do not carry tension for every thing.

Have the mechanic signed any agreement with you to scrap it in 15 days? If so you can get an affidavit from him that he has scrapped the car as per agreement.

AND THAT IS THE WRONG.
THERE ARE REGISTERED SCRAPPERS WITH RTO TO WHOM SCRAPPING IS ENTRUSTED AGAINST A SALE NOTE.

Got the scrap certificate from the mechanic. Given to understand that a copy of the registration copy of the car was given to the cops to obtain clearance before scrapping. RIP. Thank you learned counsels.
