Dear all,
History of my case.
I live in a DDA society in delhi.
On 16-May-2014, a fire broke out in common room where building's electricity meters were installed.
Our neighbours logged a complaint to electricity dept and it settled down.
When i receive bill of month of may, there was a notice attached about correction in bill and the bill was served on average consumption of last six months. To my surpise i found that in our meter reading jumped more than 1 lakh units. Then i linked this jump to the fire incident as root cause of it.
I logged a complaint to electricity dept about my meter complaint for jump. They visited my premises and replaced the meter and seized the origional meter after taking photographs of all eletricity gadgets of my house and i am being told to appear at meter testing department in Aug where they will judge meter tempering or other meter problems in front of me.
I have never been to such legal complications and seek your advice to be prepared before appearing to the testing lab and how can i safeguard my interests from any panelty.

Presently, the inquiry involves question of fact. You need to prove that there was no mischief on your part.

Let them inquire and satisfy that no tempering has been done in the meter. If they allow, you should take with you some electrical engineer or retired person from electricity meter department.

Wait for the testing of the meter and let them give their report. In the report if it is noted that there was tampering of the meter and you are asked to give explanation, you may give a suitable reply based on the facts and the circumstances (out break of fire).
