My client is required to produce his marriage certificate by his employer a multi national company. He and his wife are happily married with a son, but it was not a solemnized marriage, and they just started to live together as husband and wife with the consents of all the family members. Should I approach the Family court for marriage certificate?

In case of non hindus you can approach the Marriage Officer of your district, not the family court.Function of family court begins with the disputes between the spouses, after the marriage officer ends his functions.

You should get the marriage registered with the area/district Registrar of Marriages under the provisions of your (religion) Marriage Act or Special Marriage Act.

"they just started to live together as husband and wife with the consents of all the family members. "
Check the procedure and formalities from O/o Registrar.
If you face difficulties take help of local counsel handling such matters.
