Inherited property rights of grandchildren

(Querist) 16 January 2017 This query is : Resolved
My grandfather had purchased a property which was inherited by my father, his 3 brothers after my grandfathers death. 2 of my uncles released their share and the property is in the name of my father and one uncle now.
Can the property be termed as ancestral property now ?
Can my father and uncle dispose it independently ?
Do grandchildren have any right over this property ?

Forget it. It is neither an ancestral property nor you have any right to claim during the life of your father.
Kumar Doab (Expert) 16 January 2017
The property is not ancestral and your father can dispose it in his life time in anyone's favor by a valid deed/WILL.

Your father can give a share to you,by his sweet will.

You have NO forced share in it.

You should be thankful to the experts that your academic problem is solved.

It is tradition and culture and responsibility to serve the parent.

Parents usually do not discriminate.

If they are no compelling and unexplained reasons, parent (father) may give a share to all children.

Thank u respected experts for answering my query.
It was amusing to read how some experts assumed that I was interested in the property!
Guest (Expert) 18 January 2017
Mr. Sri,

You are welcome.

However, so far as assumption goes, that happens when the author of the problem provides no background or inadequate background of the problem.

In your query, you did not make any mention, why you were interested to ask such a question, as a grand child?

So far as your question, "Can my father and uncle dispose it independently?" was concerned, that would have been justified, but when you asked additional question, "Do grandchildren have any right over this property ?" that became the cause of suspicion why you could have been interested in addition to the right of your father.
