Loss of employment is no excuse. If he fails to make payment he will be put behind the bars as long as the arrears are not paid.

husband is liable to pay maintenance even if he loses job . he has to comply with court orders for payment of maintenance

I agree with experts advise, you will have to pay the amount otherwise arrest warrants will be issued against you.
