If you have borrowed you should pay.

Now if you go for settlement it shall also be adverse entry in your credit records.

The trick is to let the debt+ penal charges inflate then press to pay.

If there has been no admission of debt by you the debt might be hopelessly time barred and recovery can not be enforced.

You can tell them point blank to not to call you or anyone related to you and approach court of law.

You can lodge complaint with police for harassment and calls to relatives and friends.

Record all calls.

If you are unable to handle entrust to your able lawyer.

A creditor can always ask you to pay even when debt is time barred.
However, he can not file a suit of realisation nor can he harass you or your relative or friends.

Even if you haven't paid the due amount, the institution doesn't have any right to harass you through phone or threaten you or your family or friends. You can file a police complaint against them or send a legal notice and settle the issue.

The creditor can demand you to pay the amount due to him though it is time barred. If you do not want to pay, do not give any reply to them. Let him proceed further and wait for his action.

However, the creditor can make telephone calls to your family members and friends and harass them for the payment of your dues. If he does not stop calling your family members etc., then make a police complaint against him.
