Cancelling marriage after the engegement

(Querist) 24 October 2017 This query is : Resolved
Hello Sir/Madam,

I had the engagement last month and the marriage date & hall has been fixed for 2018. But on our daily conversations, I am being discouraged on her behavior/attitude/adverse reactions like
for eg. the girl not ready to cook (instead asking me to cook), Disrespect to my parents, not ready/laziness to fulfill basic responsibilities like caring my parents, caring myself, caring family & not giving value to relationships/emotions.

Many times I have tried to convince/explain about how the things should be!, but no changes seen :( I am afraid to marry her as her adverse behavior may lead to misunderstandings/ DV issues after marriage..

Kindly advise whats the legal impact to cancel the marriage?? I am ready pay out any expenses

Also I am expecting a strong resistance from girl's side and we don't have any mediator who can help.. will the legal procedures help us?

Girls family may foist cheating case and dowry cases against you. So its better to come to an understanding or agreement before marriage involving neutral elders from both asides to pay off engagement expenses of girls side etc in front of elders of girls side in order to avoid disgrace falling on you later on.

I will advise you to speak to the lady and convince her for calling off the engagement.
You can take services of senior lawyer or family member who has influence on both families to call off the marriage proposal amicably.
The legal notice will be documented option where the offer to reimburse all the expenses incurred by other party and return of all gifts, ornaments etc to them can be made to settle the matter amicably.

Dear Vishwas,

If you're of the opinion that the girl is not suitable for you, then call off and cancel the proposed marriage. No legal action can be, practically, taken against you. Hard feelings may precipitate and police may intervene. But it can be handled with the assistance of a lawyer.

Try to have amicable settlement. involve near relatives.

If not possible, proceed after discussion with local lawyer.
Kumar Doab (Expert) 24 October 2017
If there was NO mediator for engagement then it does not mean that your side or girls side can not have a mediator to call off the marriage.

Hope you the record of reasons to call off.
If elders of the family, relative can intervene and call off the marriage on amicable terms without noise then nothing like it.
It is natural that there might be some heartburn.
In future discuss the expectations beforehand.
If you think that girl's side shall create noise then it is better to consult a very able senior LOCAL counsel and involve to avoid adverse implications.

Since you are willing to pay the shared/full expenses there should be NO dispute on atleast this point.
