Can a rehab treat a person whose has been robbing?

Querist : Anonymous (Querist) 26 March 2017 This query is : Resolved
The parents found out about the boys habit of stealing/robbing.. They have admitted their son to a well known rehab claiming that the psychiatrist at the rehab will be able to treat the behavioral problem of their son who is 21 years old.

He has been robbing since he was 11 years old.

His confidence has grown with time.

In 2013, he was involved in a big robbery worth Rs 9 lac from one of his own family member's house.

He was caught by the police later, but they requested & pleaded the victims family to take back the complain and give him a chance to improve, which They did so.

Now he was again caught in a phone robbery in Ahmadabad. The family soon came to know about it, but instead of giving him to police, they have put him in a rehab.

On asking the rehab, they said that it's an OCD and that their panel is well equipped to treat him.

As far as my knowledge is concerned, rehabs are for addicts.

Isn't this illegal activity conducted by the rehab for admitting a person like this?

This also means that the parents are saving the son by wrong means and protecting the culprit.

Is this rehab conducting an illegal operation by giving a shelter to a criminal?

Please advice.

the person has already identified himself as hardened and committed criminal. It is too late for their parents to wake up.

If son is a habitual and hardened criminal and beyond amenable to correction it is too late for the parents to chastise or correct his behavioral disorder.

A Mental Health Provider could Evaluate the underlying Reasons for this. Not only in the aspect of Stealing even in other aspects which could be branded as crime like sexual abusive etc.In this case more over the concerned person is a Child and should concentrate on Recovering that Person from such things than Punishing him.

Here I would prefer to refer an real incident that took place.(Better to avoid their name)one student who had not completed his schooling was very much Expert in software and some how he got the access to one of the leading Bank. There he used to transfer to his account maximum 5 to 10 US Dollars from each account as and when he needs.Initially it went Ignored and Finally he was Caught and Convicted. The same Bank Officials met him in the Prison and requested whether he would be able to find out a Remedy to avoid such things to happen in future.By God's Grace he had done it and Now after getting released he is Chairman of a Leading Software Company with more than 5000 People under him.No one is a born Saint or born Criminal.Only the Proper approach would put an end.
