Dear Experts,

Registration of marriage on the basis of consulate gen of india certificate of

Greetings!

I am an Indian National who got married with foreigner in overseas Country in 1984 and we both registered our marriage with the Indian Consulate in the country of residence and also with the local government.

We have been issued certificate of marriage registration by the Consulate General of India. My wife is holding OCI Card.

I wish to know that during our visit to India. can we register our marriage with Marriage Registrar in India based on the certificate of registration issued by Consulate Office in 1984 and what will be the procedure.

What type of affidavit or other documents are to be prepared/presented.

I have all my previous passports which also shows my wife's name.

Thank you for the help

Sincere Regards

Dear Querist
there is no requirement for registration of Marriage in India because the Consulate Gen. have already issued a marriage registration certificate which shall be valid all over the world.

A certificate issued by Consulate is as good as issued by any registrar of marriages in India. However if you want to get the marriage registered with registrar here just produce marriage certificate to him and he will make a entry in record

In a foreign country between two Indians married and registered under Foreign Marriage Registration Act before the Consulate General is valid in India also.

No need to visit registrar in India and to get marriage registered in India if it has already been registered with consulate gen of India.

In many threads expert used Mrs/Mr/Ms/Child before addressing me, please use Mr. before my name.
